Medicare is a federal health insurance program primarily for individuals aged 65 and older, but it also covers some younger people with disabilities and certain medical conditions.
Most people are automatically enrolled in Medicare when they turn 65 if they are already receiving Social Security benefits or Railroad Retirement Board benefits. If you’re not receiving these benefits, you’ll need to sign up yourself during your initial enrollment period, which starts three months before your 65th birthday and ends three months after.
You can sign up online, by phone, or in person at your local Social Security office. You can enroll in Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period, which begins three months before you turn 65 and ends three months after your birthday month.
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is managed by the federal government, while Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurance companies. Medicare Advantage plans often include additional benefits and may have different coverage rules.
Costs vary depending on the coverage you choose. Part A is usually premium-free if you’ve worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. Part B has a monthly premium, and there may be deductibles and copayments for services. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans also have their own costs.

Yes! You can change your Medicare plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. You can also make changes during certain Special Enrollment Periods if you qualify.
This depends on the circumstance around your enrollment. Generally your coverage will begin on the first of the following month of your enrollment. For new to Medicare beneficiaries who enrolled during their Initial Coverage Enrollment Period, coverage will begin on the first of the month indicated on your Medicare card. However, if you enroll during Annual Enrollment Period, your plan will begin Jan 1st of the following year.

However, before an agent can present coverage options and review plan-specific details, CMS federal guidelines require that both the client and the agent complete and sign a Scope of Appointment (SOA) form. This form designates what your agent can discuss with you during your appointment. This form does not enroll you in any plan or require you to enroll in a plan.
